I love this perspective. I have some health related goals for this year. If I approach them from a place of basic goodness, then they become a form of self care that I can practice with joy - instead of a chore that I have to check off on a to-do list before I can relax! It’s a whole different experience.
Thanks so much for this post, Lodro. I have always loved these words by Suzuki Roshi, but I never really understood how this was possible. If I was perfect, why should I need some improvement? Now I have your thoughts to help guide me. I will read them again.
Esther! I share your love for this quote; it haunts me. I am glad you found my reflection useful here and, to be honest, I'm guessing I'll be writing more about this quote again in the not too distant future because it is so illuminating.
Thank you. Thank you. I am a chronic over-thinker analytical and a pro of self-deprecation- A very simple “reframing” - Ruby lead the way.

Exactly! Glad that came across in my musing. I’m in the same boat here Ann
